Ingrown Toe Nails
An ingrown toe nail can occur due to several reasons:
The pressure and force that the toes are subjected to while being placed in tight and narrow fitting shoes can cause the nail at the tip of the toe to split and pierce the soft pulp. Over a period of time and without being addressed this can cause the nail to slowly move or grow its way forward in to the soft pulp of the toe. Other pressures, down the side of the toe and across the toes, can cause the borders of the nails to cut or to penetrate the skin causing the nails to grow into the flesh.
Some sportsmen and women suffer from ingrown toe nails due to injuries suffered while engaging in sporting activities.
Being overweight can cause the pulp of the toe to rise above the nail edge and cause the nail to grow towards and into the skin fold
Poor nail cutting technique can cause the nail to split. This may then cause splinters or spurs which can break free from the nail body and grow into the toe.
