Verrucaes
Like Athletes Foot a Verruca is a virus which can be easily transmitted and can be found within changing rooms of sporting facilities.  It is believed that the virus is injected into the skin, probably while the foot is immersed in water or sweat, entering through an area of the skin where either trauma has occurred (a small cut) or where the skin has become soft and tender.

Verrucaes can sometimes be difficult to diagnose since they can look similar to a hard corn.  To ascertain whether the lesion is viral ( a verruca) a 95% silver nitrate pencil can be applied.  If the lesion turns sky blue within about a minute it is an active growing verruca.  If it does not change colour it is more likely to be a corn.

How To Treat A Verruca:

Unfortunately you cannot kill a verruca virus.  Even though an Anti Viral treatment will kill the symptons, it cannot kill the virus itself.  Therefore removal of the verruca cannot be completely guaranteed.

Treatments to help reduce the symptons can be discussed.  Please call to make an appointment.
